02.04 Broadcast—Television

The News program that I selected for the assignment is the show called “60 Minutes” show on CBS.  60 Minutes is an American TV news-magazine that was ‘to set it apart from other news programs” by using a unique style of reporter-centered investigation. The Show’s creator was Don Hewitt and then passed on to Jeff Fager after the first produce died in 2004. The topic in one of the videos (episode) from the show was on March 22 2015. The Topics range from hard news coverage to politics to lifestyle and pop culture. The story was about the ISIS (The Islamic State) taking full control of Mosul and were forcing Christians out of the country or to have the convert into their religion but overall was to drive the Christian religion out of Mosul; the second largest city in Iraq.

In this article there was no real opinions from the reporters. The reports came from the people who are Christians in the country when the the city was then fallen under ISIS control. The reporter; Lara Logan interviewed the Archbishop Nicodemus Sharaf of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the Mosul city were he had to flee along with about 10,000 Christians from the city by ISIS. The Archbishop includes in a quote “They take everything from us, but they cannot take the God from our hearts” witch is a powerful statement showing his faith stands fully but is also was devastated by these events. The Archbishop was forced out of the their homes and was only able to save a few relics and presume that ISIS destroyed the rest left behind and their were many and the buildings either destroyed or taken over by ISIS.

This show was quite effective in informing you about the topic on the ISIS take over on Mosul. What did right is that they did not mix any of the facts and kept it focused on the interviewer. The reports was well detailed and had supporting evidence. What could have been better; well their wasn’t anything in particular that I saw but their may have been something. The report to me seems to meet then “Code of Honor” in Journalism.
